Christmas Card Club - Santa Claus

This fortnight's challenge is to include Santa Claus on your card.  I've taken this jolly fellow from the very old Stampin' Up! stamp set Star Santa.  I've stamped him in black Staz On ink and then used my blender pen to pick ink up from the lids of my pads to colour him in and use more ink to add some shadow. His black buttons are button brads from  vintage trinkets which you can cover in Versamark ink, add heat and stick powder before heating very gently and then dipping in black glitter.  They look very effective.  Of course you can do this technique with all manner of metal accessories adding embossing powder or glitter.

The stamp set includes a banner stamp which you can stamp onto cotton ribbon again with Staz On to make a ribbon embellishment.  A button from the Spring Summer Stampin' Up! catalogue (basics designer buttons) with some linen thread ties it all together.  I've also added some tags from the Tiny Tags set with the jewellery punch give a merry message.  These two items are currently on our retiring list which you can order until the end of June while they stay in stock.

A white gel pen just breaks up the stark black matting layer with doodle dots and the matt layer itself and the Santa were cut using oval framelits.

The final touch which really I should have added before I stuck my card together was to add some dazzling details to give the stars and Santa a Christmassy sparkle.

Thanks to Margaret for another fun challenge.  She chose Father Christmas as it reminds her of the excitement on Christmas Eve waiting for him to arrive down the chimney.  I have to say I agree totally and I'm hoping that we might just get another year of believing in our house, but it's really in the balance......

Have a good week. Zx

This is also entered in Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge Extra where anything goes so why don't you join in!
