Totally Techniques Glitter Spatter for that sparkly finish

Hello and welcome to our May Totally Techniques Blog Hop which Kelly has chosen for us today. She loves the Glitter Spatter technique and I must confess it was new to me so I've enjoyed having a go and making this card with the new Enjoy Life stamp set that will be available in the new Stampin' Up! catalogue.

You'll receive a complimentary copy of the catalogue from me if you've purchased £25 or more of Stampin' Up! from me since January 2018.  If you don't fall into that category you can still get a catalogue from me you just need to email at zoetant@live.co.uk and I'll be in touch to arrange it.

So this technique of glitter spatter is really easy, but so effective especially on night time scenes like I have created.  All you need is your 'scene', some tombow glue, an aqua painter or paint brush, a silicon mat and some water if using a paint brush and that inevitable bit of sparkly bling that you know I love - glitter.

Here's what to do.

1. Put a small penny size blob of tombow onto your silicon mat.
2. Thin it down by squeezing your aqua painter above it to drop some water on the glue and then mix with the aqua painter brush.  Don't worry as long as you rinse promptly after using, the aqua painter will recover.
3.  By mixing the glue and water inevitably some will be on the brush of the aqua painter and then all you need to do is flick it on the design making sure that you mask areas that you don't want splattered and also around your work space.
4.  You can then add glitter to the watered down glue splatters and shake of any excess.  It creates a fabulous effect like stars in the sky with different shapes and sizes of glitter splatter.

I confess to thinking at the start that you could add spots of glue with the fine tip glue, but actually you wouldn't get such a random pattern or the same fabulous starry sky effect.

So just like the Meerkats say it's SIMPLE and very effective.

The stamp set Enjoy Life is fab too.  It's a real eclectic mix of images and sentiments, but all are great for the UK market appropriate to what we may say here.  I love the foliage stamp which I've used on the base card and also on my sponge brayered focal point. It reminds me of a set called Pocket Silhouettes which was one of my first stamp sets many years ago when I became a Stampin' Up! demonstrator.  It is easy for any level of craft because you can just stamp along the bottom of a card and create a simple card with no skill required.  Enjoy Life also has the sweet little bird silhouette and two petite little butterflies.  As it's photopolymer it was easy to perch the bird on a branch caught in the moonlight.

I created the moon with a circle punched out of a post it note making sure that a big piece of the sticky strip on the note was in the circle.  I used the sponge brayer to create the night sky starting with Pool Party, Balmy Blue (a new colour), and finally Blueberry Bushel a new in colour.  I very, very gently ran the brayer over the moon with the mask removed to soften the 'glow' of it.  I stamped the foliage and bird with Tuxedo Memento black ink.

TOP TIP
Make sure your scene ink is very dry before adding the splatter so that the glitter doesn't stick to the ink and give glitter smudge instead of splatter!!!!!

Enjoy our hop by carrying on to Satomi's blog in Japan next.
