Tips for the emboss resist technique

Welcome to my blog and I hope you have all had a wonderful peaceful Christmas and are looking forward to a new year of exciting events.  I'm certainly looking forward to some new beginnings and like many the old favourite doing a little more exercising and a little less eating.  We have enjoyed some tasty treats during the festive season in our house and may need to slow it down.

I have two cards to share with you. The first above is very simply achieved and here is what I did. 

• Use an embossing buddy to remove static from your piece of white card.  Mine is the a standard card front size.
• Stamp a sentiment randomly over the white card several times using Versamark ink and then add white embossing powder  and heat. 
• Use blending brushes to add different shades of your chosen colour over the card starting with the lightest and taking the colour as far as you want to create a lighter background for the image you will add later.  I used Fresh Freesia, Highland Heather and Orchid Oasis.  Adding the colours from lightest to darkest allows you the freedom to choose how large a spotlight area just around the image you create.  Also if you start with a light shade you can then add the darker shade to the same blending brush if you haven't built up a collection yet, after all blending brushes are like shoes and handbags - you can never have too many!
• Once finished take a tissue and rub off any excess ink sat on the embossed sentiment to make the letters really pop and stop any accidental ink smudges. 
• Stamp an image and colour it with coordinating alcohol pens. Again I used a selection of Stampin' Blends in the following colours Fresh Freesia, Highland Heather, Orchid Oasis, Mint Macaron, Mossy Meadow and Soft Seafood with a touch of Mango Melody for the flower centre. 
• Fussy cut your image and add to your embossed card with dimensional and possibly a few brushed brass butterflies or similar
• Add your design to a card base and your done.

For my second card I followed the procedure above, but stamped just the image onto watercolour paper in Versamark and then added white powder before heat setting.  I then used water painters to add colour to the image and a watercolour wash background.  I took ink from the inside lid of different ink pads to colour the image. 

I added a layer of Pool Party card which was embossed using embossing folder Pretty Flowers to create a frame and added a simple sentiment and a sparkly ribbon for a bit of bling.
