Embossing ideas for card making

handmade emboss resist technique card using Leaf Collection stamp and Spotlight on Nature stamp set

I created this card primarily for a colour challenge that I found on facebook which asked you to use these colours Petunia Pop, Melon Mambo, Lemon Lime Twist and Summer Splash.  I got so busy with it that I forgot the Melon Mambo but I love it anyway but of course it didn't fit the challenge.

I added lots of ink to a piece of white card before stamping the leaf image several times over the inked sheet in Versamark.  I added clear embossing powder to create a gloss set of images over this coloured piece.  Once cooled I then stamped over the whole piece with the crosshatch stamp from the Spotlight on Nature stamp set.  I then wiped off any ink on the embossed images as the ink resists with the embossing.  I makes it look like the cross hatch was stamped underneath the leaves.

Quick tip if you try this technique make sure your blended colour layer is dry before doing the embossing stage or you may have lots of speckles in addition to your gloss leaves.

The butterflies I stamped in Black Memento ink before colouring with Stampin' Blends aka alchohol markes. I fussy cut them out to add over the baker's twine criss cross lines.

It creates a bold design using these colours and I love to do some mixed media designs sometimes.  Inky, messy fingers is a sign of a good day crafting for me!

Have a great day

Ink smooshing for Totally Techniques Blog Hop

handmade hello card with submarine and underwater scene

Hi lovely crafty followers it's our May Totally Techniques blog hop today with international Stampin' Up! demonstrators sharing tips and ideas for using the ink smooshing technique.  It's great for creating fun backgrounds for things like submarines and also for creating fun patterns and colour combos on watercolour paper that you can use for die cutting.

I used the Submarine Life stamp and punch bundle to create a fun card to say hello, but the set includes several fun sentiments that could be used and how you set your scene is up to you.  Let's face it who doesn't love a 'yellow submarine' and now you have an ear worm for the rest of the day!  In a past life I spent a little time on a submarine and it was fun. Just like Stampin' Up! has brought lots of new friends and contacts I have lots of fond memories of a previous role where I have great friends now retired from submarines so that is why this bundle of products appealed to me.

My video shows how to create the ink smooshed background and then I've added an underwater scene using the stamps from the set and a little fussy cutting.  It was fun to create and I know it will bring a smile to the person I'm planning to send it to.

I used the ink on the glass mat version to lift ink with a piece of window sheet to colour a white heat embossed image for the next card.  It looked a little messy with the whole piece of watercolour paper, but die cut it gives a more arty view and layered onto an embossed background it tones it down.  I embossed the background using my scoreboard which made the even distances really easy to achieve.  The Layers of Beauty bundle is proving popular.  It's hard to believe how many different way you can use this set.  If you haven't fallen for it yet you may want to look out for our June promotion starting on the 5th when you can get a bonus extra 10% off bundles for the remainder of June.

Joseph's Coat Technique for cardmaking

example of Joseph's Coat technique with stampin up

Welcome everyone and sorry I've been somewhat preoccupied with family issues recently so have missed a couple of our lovely Totally Techniques Team blog hops, but back tonight with the team sharing Joseph's  Coat Technique.  This is a fun way to play with ink.  It's not difficult, but can get a little messy when you add some of the ink, but it has wow results and you can use lots of different colour combinations.  There are also different ways you can approach this technique, but here is my take on it.

Once you have created your Jacob's Coat you can use the whole design to make it a decorative layer for a card and add sentiments, dry embossed strips, ribbon and die cuts along with embellishments like the bee.

On this version of the technique I also used water droplets to create bleach spots and also added some Wink of Stella for some added interest and sparkle.  I've also added some gold foil card die cuts and an embossed strip of real red card and a die cut sentiment using the Stylish Stems stamp set and dies.

I created a very simple version also using the Lovely You stamp set and the same colours as above.

I added a very simple silver embossed sentiment to this version and some sparkly silver Festive Pearls.
