Watercolour Wash Technique with Stampin' Up! Re Inkers

If you are visiting my blog for the first time, I hope it won't be the last and that you enjoy seeing my various makes including this super cute card using the Awesome Otters stamp set.  Cute isn't everyone's thing, but I really think that even the most non cutesy person could cope with this set in their stash when you can make a simple card like this and you don't even need to colour them.  Colouring also is a put off for some with open images like these. I used to call myself a non colourer inner, I did really, but I think I'm improving not only in having a go, but also in getting better results.  The trick as with anything is practice.  That said all I've coloured today is the party hats and they really didn't take any skill. 

The colour in this card is in the watercolour wash which I created on watercolour paper using water painters, ink  and water.  

I started with the watercolour paper roughly taped to my worktop with painters masking tape. I intentionally used a piece of paper bigger than I needed so that if the ink spread under the tape it didn't matter as I would cut the piece to the required size once coloured and dry.   Once taped down I squeezed the water to the brush head and painted across a section of the paper horizontally.  I added ink by picking it up from drops from re-inker bottles on a stamp block.  I had three colours and as I worked up the paper with the different colours they created the extra colours as the water and ink blended.  My starting colours were Coastal Cabana, Mango Melody and Polished Pink.  Once I'd watercolour washed the whole sheet I carefully removed the tape so as not to tear beyond the white border into my coloured section and allowed it to dry completely before using the Picture This dies to create the windows for the stamped images you see.  Don't discard the die cut circles as I'll soon show you another technique using them. 

I used a very soft pencil to lightly mark the circles with the colour paper placed on the card base where I intended to stick it.  I then stamped the images taking care not to stamp beyond the borders of the coloured layer and also not to enter another circle.  Again I made sure my ink was dry before using an eraser to remove the pencil circles. 

With left over ink on the stamping block I used a blender pen to lift the ink to colour the party hat spots.
