Spotlight Technique for cardmaking with Simply Zinnias Stampin' Up!

Hi crafty friends it's Totally Techniques blog hop time again and we're sharing the spotlight technique.  It's fun and easy to do, but you can 'WOW' it up if you choose.

You can see how I created this card on my Youtube channel under Spotlight Technique for cardmaking

I've used the Simply Zinnias stamp set for mine and also the Stylish Shapes dies to create my spotlight square.  It is a flexible technique and you can use any stamp set preferably with an outline design rather than a solid so that you can add colour to spotlight a part of your image.

I used Stampin' Blends, alcohol markers to colour my image which was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink which is perfect for use with such markers.  The colours used include Poppy Parade, Peach Pie, Daffodil Delight, Mossy Meadow and Lemon Lime Twist.

My sentiment on this occasion isn't stamped as I used one of the Saying Something ephemera pack printed and laser cut sentiments.   The pack contains lots of different sentiments for varied occasions and are very quick to use.  On this occasion you just can't beat a paper hug!

A quick reminder too that our Bonus Coupons offer runs until the end of this month.  For every £45 spent on product you earn a coupon which you can spend on product in August.  Every little helps at the moment and so I hope this offer works for you.

Enjoy the hop and keep stamping.

Embossing ideas for card making

handmade emboss resist technique card using Leaf Collection stamp and Spotlight on Nature stamp set

I created this card primarily for a colour challenge that I found on facebook which asked you to use these colours Petunia Pop, Melon Mambo, Lemon Lime Twist and Summer Splash.  I got so busy with it that I forgot the Melon Mambo but I love it anyway but of course it didn't fit the challenge.

I added lots of ink to a piece of white card before stamping the leaf image several times over the inked sheet in Versamark.  I added clear embossing powder to create a gloss set of images over this coloured piece.  Once cooled I then stamped over the whole piece with the crosshatch stamp from the Spotlight on Nature stamp set.  I then wiped off any ink on the embossed images as the ink resists with the embossing.  I makes it look like the cross hatch was stamped underneath the leaves.

Quick tip if you try this technique make sure your blended colour layer is dry before doing the embossing stage or you may have lots of speckles in addition to your gloss leaves.

The butterflies I stamped in Black Memento ink before colouring with Stampin' Blends aka alchohol markes. I fussy cut them out to add over the baker's twine criss cross lines.

It creates a bold design using these colours and I love to do some mixed media designs sometimes.  Inky, messy fingers is a sign of a good day crafting for me!

Have a great day

Ink smooshing with Encircled in Nature

ink smooshing handmade card with stampin up encircled in nature bundle

Did you see my last post sharing the easy, but fun technique of ink smooshing?  It is a great technique for original backgrounds that you can then die cut or use to stamp on and lots more.  There are a few ways to do it so check out my video to see the ways I did it.

For this particular card I created a background using the technique onto watercolour paper fluid 100 and then die cut the part I wanted and positioned it in the aperture created using the same die on a piece of white card. I'd already stamped the wreath image on the white card.  I stamped and die cut some of the trees from the Encircled in Nature bundle to add more depth and detail and also stamped the moon and stars onto my die cut ink smooshed piece.  I raised the white layer on Stampin' dimensionals.

I added a sentiment from the same stamp set, but this could be quickly adapted to be a super Christmas card for anyone creating cards for Christmas in July.

This month Stampin' Up! has a fabulous offer available to you.  For every £45 you spend on product from my shop you'll earn a BONUS COUPON worth £4.50 which you'll be able to use against a future purchase the following month.

Have a great week.
