Totally Techniques - Emboss Resist with video tutorial

The Totally Techniques team of international Stampin' Up! demonstrators is here again with another blog hop sharing our individual projects showcasing the emboss resist technique for paper crafters.  

Welcome to everyone visiting and hello.  If you've just arrived from Marine's blog you've already seen a fabulous example of this super easy, but fun technique.

For my example I've used the Stampin' Up! Eastern Beauty stamp set to create this circular design that could be used for anyone as a birthday card all you need to do is change the colours.  In fact if you know a tennis fan the lemon lime twist version I have shared would be perfect .

To show you how it is done I've recorded this video to help you and all you'll need is the basic ink paper and stamps to get started with a versa mark ink pad, clear or white embossing powder and a heat tool.  

TOP TIP

Now lots of folk ask 'can i use a hair dryer instead of a heat gun?' and sadly the answer is no because the hair dryer would blow aware the looser specks of embossing powder and also the heat is probably not quite hot enough.  You always need to be careful with heat embossing as the tool is very hot and you need to remember to put it down safely and in a sensible place where it doesn't cause any damage to the surface you place it on due to temperature of it once used.

Telford for Stampin' Up! Regional Training

Today I'm sharing a wonderful day in the company of over 300 other crazy Stampin' Up! demonstrators at Telford for a regional training event.  It's usually a fab day with lots of inspiration from other demonstrators in the form of swaps. We trade ideas by swapping card samples. 

Above are my swaps for the day. I've made the top one for the girls from my team and the bottom one is my general swap.  I had so much fun making these getting messy with lots of 'smudging' over embossed images.  I used the emboss resist technique and if you've not done that before come along to my techniques club classes to learn skills like this and others. 

If you don't recognise the flower stamps that's because they are from a stamp set I received for attending the Dutch Regional training event in Almere last month.  You can see details of my Stampin' Up! dutch day by visiting a previous post.  You can see another example of this set on my sneak peek post.

I'll let you know more about the stamp set in due course, but I hope like me you love the colour spritzer tool and spritzing bottles for the splatter effect and also the Delicate Doilies Sizzlits.

Bliss is nearly faded!!

Half term progresses calmly in the TANTalizing household with my children being angels whilst on our shopping trip yesterday and today they were stars whilst one of my technique clubs visited for their class.  Today's class saw us try something very simple but with fabulous effect, but that's not what I'm going to show to you just yet. Instead another club completed this emboss resist project last week. I love the combo of poppy parade, pear pizzazz and pacific point with a little night of navy satin ribbon and rhinestones for the luxury feel. 

Once again Bliss caught my eye for this project and it's just fab. I shall be sorry to see it go at the end of the month.  It's been a versatile and deliciously vintage set to use and I will miss Bliss!  One stamp set that will stay for quite some yet is the Medallion which provided the large solid stamp that helps you to achieve exciting results for this technique.  This again is versatile and can be used for those elusive male cards that we all seek.

The added butterfly was made using an embosslit from the US catalogue.  It was a gift from a friend and I think it's fair to say that most uk demonstrators are wishing for such items to be in our new mini catalogue which launches on 1 April.  At the very worst we hope it will make it into our new main catalogue in October.  We've yet to get a sneak peak of the 'MINI' and we're all getting very excited.  In the meantime I will have to use my gift and enjoy it.

Techniques Club a great success!

Today I shared an emboss resist technique with one of my clubs. This is a technique that was showcased at our recent convention and so I cased the card that was demonstrated and showed it to this particular club.  They loved it just like me and here are the cards that were made by those able to attend today.  The rest of the group will be joining me on another day or receiving a pack with the ingredients to make their own. 

You need to emboss your image in clear onto the watercolour paper that we now have in the catalogue, and then colour wash over the image using the aqua painter and colour from the top of an ink pad lid.  You need darker colours if you want rich colour or paler for a much more muted look.  Depending upon the amount of water you have coming through your aquapainter dictates the colour strength also and how watercoloured your image ends up.  You can see from everyone's fabulous efforts that everyone did it differently.  For those that haven't come across the stamp set yet it's called Just Believe and believe me it gorgeous!

Finally I couldn't resist showing you the concentration that I achieve at my classes!!!! I promised I wouldn't name her so I'll keep it a secret except from those who might recognise my lovely friend!!!!!
I haven't bothered to load my card as I didn't think it came close to these wonderful cards.  I'm glad to say that everyone shied away from making this card on arrival, but they were all thrilled with their efforts.  I was a proud teacher today! Thanks guys for a fun session.
