You might have just left Nina's blog. Isn't her share great!  It is now allowed to say Christmas I think now we've past Bonfire Night and so time to start making your cards and other festive paper craft items if you haven't like me been doing them all year.  

Today I'm sharing a card using the very popular Peaceful Place DSP (patterned paper) and a simple addition of a sentiment, ribbon and partially fussy cut holly sprig from the Happy Holly-days stamp set.

I used a Real Red card for a square card base and added a matt layer of black card before adding my DSP layer with the ribbon fastened behind this layer.  

I stamped the sentiment and holly sprig on the same piece of white card and then used my Stampin' trimmer to remove excess white around the sentiment and keep the holly attached to the sentiment.  I used that good old punch/die called scissors to remove most of the white around the holly, but left it attached to the sentiment. 

Below I've  adapted the ribbon usage by just looping it across the back of my sentiment, used a banner punch to decorate one end and added a few rhinestones to coordinate with the silver embossed background DSP.  This paper is so beautiful and one sheet makes 4 good sized square cards, you just have to cut it which I know for some is very challenging as you prefer to stroke it, but at least this way just about the whole sheet is used and minimal wastage.  Even the thin strips cut off can be used for another card or too as borders.

Stampin' Up! Have a Robin - Stampin' for Christmas Blog hop

 

Stampin' Up! have been asked for many years to have a Robin stamp by UK demonstrators and not least me.  At last this year they have a fabulous stamp set called Happy Holly-days and it features this fab fellow.  I couldn't resist it and have used it very simply for this month's Stampin' for Christmas blog hop.  

Welcome to everyone visiting me today and particularly if this is your first visit to my blog.  I hope it's not the last and that you find lots of inspiration for festive cards on this international hop. 

For my card I created a mask for the holly by stamping it onto copier paper and cutting it out just on the inside of the outline of the image.  I then used this to mask some of the holly as I stamped it across the card to give the impression of layers of holly. Below you can see the overlap stamping with the mask in place to protect the original stamped image. 

Here the mask has been removed and you can see the double image looking like one holly sprig is behind the other. 

The Robin was originally stamped on the card and then again on another piece of card. It was easier to have the image in place to add the holly and then with the second image fussy cut it out and add onto the stamped Robin.  

I kept the card really simple by stamping in Black Memento ink and just adding Real Red using alcohol marker Stampin' Blends to make the iconic red breast and berries 'pop'. 

I layered the design piece onto a piece of DSP from the new winter catalogue pack called Peaceful Place.  This is a black, grey and silver design pack of papers that you can add any colour to for dramatic effect or just touches like this to frame your focal point.  

Also I'm sure like me you don't like waste anything and so an off cut of ribbon folded and tucked underneath the edge of layers just adds a simple finishing flourish.  

A simple, but eye-catching card for mantlepieces this Christmas.

Robins for Christmas Card Club

 

Happy Sunday and what a strange one it is.  One minute lovely sunshine and the next hail or snow.  I've also spotted  a friend's photo on facebook showing inches of snow that settled overnight a little further north and west from here admittedly.  

However it does make it seem a little less crazy that it is Christmas Card Club Challenge today and Margaret asked for Robins as the Robin is her favourite bird.  I don't possess any Robin stamps apart from this one that I carved using a kit a few years ago, but I think it does the  job and I managed to stamp him onto the branch featured in a new set coming soon.  

I started with a snowflake background inspired by today's weather which is just white on white die cuts using So Many Snowflake dies which will also return in our new annual catalogue.  Before die cutting I added double sided adhesive sheet to my card to make it much easier to attach them to the card layer.  

The Robin I coloured with Stampin' Write markers to blend the colours and give a slight feather look before stamping.  My sentiment is simply white heat embossed and is from the Snow Wonder set on the carryover list from the winter catalogue.  A strip of designer paper just adds a touch more colour.
