Your Birthday Song - adapt your stamping

Years ago I changed a fun Meerkat stamped image by adding clothing to the Meerkats.  Heres a link to The Gangs All Meer post.  Some 6 years later I had the same thought to 'alter' or should I say 'dress' these Flamingos or Flingos as our daughter used to call them when she was little.  

I started with a Stampin' Up! journalling pen to add skirts, tops and necklaces ant then coloured them in with Stampin' Blends.  I added the feathers using a stamp set that was recently gifted to all demonstrators that registered for a demonstrator only event happening in August.  One of the stamps just said feathers to me and so I stamped it and added some lines to give the feather effect and when the ink was fully dry I used one of our new gel pens to add a little more obvious detail.  I also redid the initial add on outlines with the journalling pen.  

The feathers I used that all purpose die called scissors,  (LOL!! my favourite die), to fussy cut them out.  To fit them around the head of each individual 'flingo' I stamped the top of the head onto the bottom of the feathers and cut the line i stamped so that it wrapped over the top of each bird.  They are all different so you'll need to do it for each one.

#simplestamping - New Horizons DSP

 If you need a card at the rush then this one is for you.  I've used watercolour painted, then printed papers to create the misty scene and I've stamped on the trees and birds with black ink.  I added a matt layer of card which I blended tone on tone ink onto to darken it a little and then added a triple wrap of Baker's Twine and and very simply stamped sentiment.  This is all on a card base of Fresh Freesia which I also used a blending brush and tone on tone ink to soften it's shade. 

This type of card would be perfect for some one who literally just needs to stop and take a breath or a sympathy card.  

Some cards are very simple, but the impact can be huge.

Christmas Card Club - Christmas Wreaths

 

Hi lovely crafty friends so close your eyes for a moment and pretend it's Sunday and then open your eyes and join me and the girls for our fortnightly Christmas card share.  I'm late, but the weekend was so busy with all sorts going on and i made this yesterday with poor light for taking any pictures.  It was a great weekend though and the week has started slow for me as like many I'm fighting off a cold which I'm hoping won't knock me out. Hope you are all well and ticketty boo!

For my card I've used an early release set of dies from the Spring, yes shocking to be thinking of that already, catalogue and I love it.  The Collection is called Eden's Garden and currently includes papers, gorgeously lush gems, cotton paper (like a stiffer tissue paper!) and a stamp and die bundle.  You can see additions here from Forever Flourishing dies and my sentiment if from Words of Cheer and simply embossed in gold.  

I've mixed Evening Evergreen and Soft Succulent card and added some brushed metallic gold die cuts too. I just love this brushed foil.  It changes shade as the lights catch it from different directions.  

To add to the Christmas feel I've added some of the new limited release Garden Gems which are Cherry Cobbler and Soft Succulent, and coordinating ribbon to finish.  This die makes a wreath so easy and offers a variation on the theme of the traditional circle. 

I'm using the papers from this suite in class this week so will share more, but do note the papers (DSP), Garden Gems and cotton paper are all only available while stocks last and won't actually feature in the Spring catalogue.

Joyful Life Christmas Helpers

 Happy Sunday and welcome to my blog on this at the moment sunny morning.  I'm sharing a very simple fancy fold card today for my contribution to our Christmas Card Club Challenge.  Today's theme is Santa's helpers so I've used the fun set Joyful Life and stamped this super cute hedgehog in Tuxedo Black Memento ink before colouring it in with alcohol markers.  Having fussy cut it out I added it to a die cut circle on a die cut scalloped circle of Shaded Spruce card.  I added a ribbon offcut by stapling it onto the green circle and some dots with a chalk marker.  A simple sentiment on a stitched die cut rectangle and you have a quick and easy card.  

The card base is a C6 and I have scored the card front at 5.25 and folded it back on itself before adding patterned paper to the inside and the front panel.  

 

This weekend we are empty nesters with Charlie well and truly settled into Uni and Liv has gone to meet up with Uni friends.  It's quiet without them which is nice, but I'm not sure I'm ready for it full time just yet.  The four legged critters are keeping us busy though which fills the void.

Nature's Harvest great Stampin' Up! set for torn edge technique

Welcome to our September Totally Techniques blog hop where we are sharing the simple technique of using a torn edge to add texture to your project. 

I only recently got the Stampin' Up! Nature's Harvest stamp set and so wish I had opted for it sooner.  The nicest thing is that I got the bundle free with an order using the stampin' rewards that had accrued on an order to buy supplies for my papercraft classes.  You too could choose the Nature's Harvest bundle as your bonus for joining my team this month in addition to your personally chosen kit for being part of a fun community.  

The bundle is so beautiful and I have seen lots of amazing projects made using it in so many colour ways that it will work for your personal colour choices too.  

• For the card I first painted water onto water colour paper and randomly added drops of re inker in Old Olive, Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler and Pumpkin Pie. The water makes the ink spread and the colours blend.  I quickly soaked up excess water with kitchen towel and used my heat tool to dry it quickly.  You can also allow it to just dry on its own.
• Once dry I stamped the flower image in black and die cut it along with the twig branch from the same die set using Beauty of the Earth DSP (papers)
• With the Timeworn Type 3D embossing folder I embossed strip of vellum and tore all around the edges.  If you tear the piece you are removing towards you this I find creates the best effect, but it is personal choice. 
• On a matt white layer I used texture/embossing paste to add the spot design using a stencil and also added some splatter using a Cinnamon Cider alcohol blend marker.

• I used a pair of scissors to rough the edges of this layer and gently brushed some Old Olive ink around the edges to make them blend into the Mossy Meadow card base and again a torn edged layer of the same colour which I also added second generation ink stamping to with the splatter stamp from Nature's Harvest. 
• Having added a paper lattice layer to the white embossed layer,  I matted all the pieces together and added a linen thread bow. 
• I've added a good luck embossed sentiment as the card was for a colleague of my daughter's who is leaving for a new job.
• Finishing touch is a few brushed metallic dots which make it really lush and also a touch of Wink of Stella to the flower heads which you can just about spot in the photo below. 

I love a mixed media card for a change and enjoyed the inky fingers.  Embossing paste is great fun, just remember to wash off any excess on your tools and stencils before putting away.  

Don't forget to add a lighter layer inside darker colour card bases for writing.  You can add a simple decoration using the remainder of your watercolour piece and another die from Harvest dies.

Watercoloring with Stampin' Up! watercolour pencils

Another month has passed and so I'm pleased to welcome you to our Totally Techniques blog hop of international Stampin' Up! demonstrators.  We are sharing ideas for using the Stampin' Up! water colour pencils. 

I have gone for a very simple approach. I stamped the wild flower stamp from Dragonfly Garden stamp set in black Staz On ink.  I used the pencils to add some colour roughly to each part of the image.  

I then used one of my water painter brushes to move the colour around each part of the image to add light and shade by dragging the colour with the wet brush to where I wanted it.   I'm not the best at colouring in so this technique is very forgiving.  I stamped the mini dragonflies again with black Staz On and added some pencil colour, but this time to drag it across each part of the image I used the Wink of Stella brush so that the sparkly solution mixed with the colour to give the effect of iridescent wings. 

I also added a layer of Pool Party card matted under an embossed layer of vellum to create a frame.  To the right hand side I also added a Highland Heather torn layered edge.  I used a blending brush to add some Balmy Blue ink to tone it down a little and make it blend with the coloured image.  

The sentiment is from the same stamp set and is embossed in white with a simple twine bow.

Babywipe Technique for Card Making

 

Welcome to our monthly paper craft technique blog hop.  Lovely Barbara in Austria chose our theme this month and so we'll be sharing lots of ideas for using re inkers and baby wipes for the baby wipe technique. 

This is such an easy but effective technique to try. 

1. Place a wet babywipe folded in half twice into an empty stamp case.

2. Drop several droplets of ink in different colours over the folded wipe, they will start to merge quite quickly. 

3. Use the inked wipe as an inked to create fund stamped backgrounds or as the focal point of your design. 

4. Have lots of card available as your new ink pad will last for several pieces of card. 

Check back next week for more ideas for getting as much use out of your inky wipe. 

For my homemade ink pad I used Granny Apple Green, Just Jade and two new in colours Evening Evergreen and Soft Succulent.  I love the fresh but textured effect it has created with the Lots of Leaves stamp set. You can use any stamp on your ink pad but if you really want to show off the effect solid image stamps probably work best.
